Invest In A Treadmill To Achieve Your Weight-Loss Goals

Power walking and jogging are great ways of losing weight. In fact, they may be two of the most efficient ways to burn calories and speed up your metabolism. The problem is, many people don’t feel comfortable walking or jogging around their neighborhood and others don’t have neighborhoods conducive to such exercise endeavors. Thankfully, there is a solution.

A Treadmill – Weight Loss’s Best Friend

Medical experts and health gurus have always told me that exercise is critical when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight and that walking or jogging are things that should be done by everyone who is serious about their weight loss goals. Unfortunately, I’m a bit on the introverted side. There was no way I was going to walk or jog around my neighborhood. After all, wouldn’t everyone be staring at me? Wouldn’t they laugh? Well, that’s how I used to think anyway.

Luckily for me, a close friend knew my reasons for avoiding these forms of exercise and she suggested I invest in a treadmill. Let me tell you, it was one of the best investments I ever made.

An Exciting New World of Treadmills

I wasn’t too excited when I decided to shop for treadmills. I remembered my dad had one and it was quite the boring piece of machinery. Let me tell you something -- the treadmills of yesteryear have nothing on the treadmills of today.

I paid about $600 for my treadmill (it was on sale). For that price, I got a treadmill with “shock absorbers” and something called iFit technology. Basically what it means is that I hook my treadmill up to my laptop and I get to download customized exercise programs to my treadmill from the Internet. It’s fun and it’s a great way of ensuring you don’t get bored with the same old routine over and over again.

If you find yourself in the same situation I was in, I highly suggest looking into investing in a treadmill. They are a powerful and cost-effective way of getting the exercise you need.


I think most people who buy a treadmill use it a few times and then let it quickly atrophy and gather dust in the corner. Don't be one of those people! Some strategies I use to make it more fun to run:

1) Music! I bring my mp3 player on the treadmill with me. I notice that I jog/walk/run MUCH longer with it. Not only do I not get bored, but it's much easier to push through the initial exhaustion of working out and make it to that easier "second-wind" phase of running.

2) My brother suggested putting a TV in front of the treadmill. If cranking the volume isn't an option, consider wireless headphones.

3) Books on tape. Well, CD - or podcast.

4) Cell phone. Get some of your conversations/chats taken care of while on the treadmill. A wireless headset for cell phones can come in handy. Of course, chatting on the treadmill is much easier when walking instead of running.

5) Some people can read while on the treadmill.

Lastly, when shopping for a treadmill, don't forget eBay for some great deals!
