Do Diets and Pizza Mix?
If You’re on a Diet, Pizza Can Still be a Good Food Choice
I’ve long heard that pizza is the best fast food option available especially for individuals who are on a diet, but recent news headlines have reinforced this idea. Pizza is just as quick to grab as burgers and fries, but it is much healthier for individuals on a diet because it has less sodium, calories, and fat.
A Lesser Evil
If you absolutely have to eat fast food because it’s the only way you’d get to eat on a busy day, you should opt for pizza, either plain or a slice loaded with vegetables. Avoid pizza that is topped with meats including pepperoni pizza. The meat just adds too much saturated fat and calories which can quickly ruin your diet.
Fast food cheeseburgers are high in fat and calories and not a good option for individuals on a diet. If you are on the Weight Watchers plan, a slice of Domino’s pizza is just a modest amount of points. Don’t get confused with pizza choices, though. A larger pizza slice from “local” pizza shops usually has much more calories and will be worth a lot of points on the Weight Watchers diet.
Anytime's A Good Time
The time of day you eat pizza doesn’t really matter either. Some people just love a cold slice of pizza for breakfast, and that can be a good option for many individuals especially if they would otherwise skip breakfast. However, if you would prefer to have a “treat” to look forward to when you are on a diet, you might want to save the slice of pizza for later in the evening.
Make It Your Way
If you want to avoid dairy as part of your diet, you can make your own homemade pizza that is dairy-free. Pizzas that don’t contain dairy are actually a good option for dieters because they are usually even lower in calories. You can use soy cheese purchased at a natural foods store or you can even make your own “cheese” sauce using pureed garbanzo beans. The options are endless, and you can literally tailor your homemade pizza to meat your diet restrictions.
