Half the people who don’t exercise avoid it because they have no one to exercise with. If you have children, exercise doesn’t have to be a solitary pursuit. Exercising with your kids is a great way to spend quality time with them while providing all of you with some much-needed exercise.

Great Exercises You Can Do with Your Kids

When it comes to exercising with your kids, there are a number of activities you can choose from. One of the most popular family exercise activities is bike riding. If you have little ones who are too young to ride on their own, you can buy a “trailer” made specifically for biking with kids so you can tow them behind your bicycle.

Another great way to exercise with your kids is as simple as turning up the volume on your radio and putting a beat in your step. Put an upbeat kid’s CD in your stereo and dance around for twenty to thirty minutes. This can be a great cardio workout and your kids will have a blast.

Yoga is a great exercise for mothers to do with their babies. Many yoga poses can easily be accomplished with a mother holding her infant in various ways. Yoga can be very soothing for mother and baby is sure to love the relaxed pace.

Another great way to include your kids in your daily exercise is when you are running. If you go to a nearby circular track, you can run while your child kicks a soccer ball in the center of the track (as long as the facility rules allow for it). You can both benefit from getting fresh air outdoors, and you will also be able to have your child within your line of vision at all times since you will be on the outside perimeter of the circle. Depending on your children’s ages, they can even run along with you.

Skipping is a fun cardio workout too. You can easily skip with younger children because they can keep up the pace more easily than running. If you feel funny skipping around your neighborhood, remember that good, old-fashioned walking is also a great way to exercise with your children. Busy schedules have caused Americans to rely heavily on their cars. Counteract the time we all spend sitting in the car by getting outdoors and walking around.

Shopaholics will love this one… Shopping can be a great way to get exercise. Walking indoors at a decent pace from the toy store to the kid’s section of the bookstore can be a great way to get some exercise and have a conversation with your kids at the same time.

If you’ve been avoiding working out because you could never find the time to do it or you have no one to do it with, you no longer have an excuse. There are many activities that can be done with your kids in tow. Finding time to exercise is easy if you involve your kids and it also allows you to spend some quality time together.
