Losing Weight and Late-Night Eating
Will Eating after 7 p.m. Make Losing Weight Impossible?
It seems that when it comes to losing weight, everyone has their own little bit of advice. Some people insist that if you are serious about losing weight, you cannot eat after 6 or 7 p.m. You might be wondering whether or not this dieting myth is true.
The Bare Bones Truth
The truth is that eating late at night is not likely to interfere with most people’s weight-loss goals. The total number of calories you consume is much more important than what time of the day you consume them.
For the people who insist that eating late at night interferes with losing weight, it might be the result of dieting too severely throughout the day and then binging at nighttime. If you starve yourself all day long, you will probably have sizeable cravings later at night and will end up overeating to compensate. Because you’ll be in a rush to grab a snack at that late hour, your food choices won’t probably be the best either. Because of this, eating late at night may indeed interfere with your weight-loss goals, but not for reasons you may have thought.
Keep in mind, if you are hungry late at night, a small and healthy snack certainly isn’t going to hurt you. So, don’t worry too much if you enjoy having a piece of toast or an apple before bedtime. It’s not going to make the scale go up.
What You Do Need To Avoid
If losing weight is your top priority, you’re going to want to avoid excess calories. Don’t exceed your allotted calories on any given day. Overeating by just 100 calories a day can contribute to weight gain, making weight loss even more difficult.
In addition to watching the calories you consume via food, also make sure you avoid drinking too much juice. Calories from juice can add up quickly and a cup of juice usually isn’t enough to satisfy your hunger.
By watching your calories and eating sensibly throughout the day, small nighttime snacks won’t hurt your dieting endeavor.
