Losing Weight: Are Diet Beverages the Answer?
What Can You Drink When You are Concerned with Losing Weight?
If you're interested in losing weight, you might be wondering if you can drink soft drinks. The answer is, in most cases, no. Consuming high-calorie carbonated beverages that contain high amounts of sugar is not a good idea if you are serious about losing weight. However, that doesn't mean you're destined to drinking nothing but water for the rest of your life.
Thank Goodness For Diet Cola
Diet sodas are a possible option to satisfy any cravings you might have. Typically, they contain no calories and if they do have any calories, it's just a handful. Chances are, your favorite soda comes in a diet version and the diet beverages of today taste much better than the ones they used to make years ago.
Everything in Moderation
Artificial sweeteners, such as NutraSweet and Splenda, are used to provide flavor to diet beverages. Although the health benefits of both of these products are debatable, diet sodas will fit under your dietary caloric intake and won’t interfere with losing weight. Don’t drink too many, though. One per day should be plenty.
Black Coffee Burns Calories
Another low calorie beverage available for dieters is coffee. You should drink your coffee black, or, if you choose to spend a few calories, a low fat milk can be added to it. In fact, some studies have proven that a person's metabolic rate actually increases after drinking a cup of black coffee.
Water Is Still Number One
The best beverage selection for any diet is water. Water contains zero calories and provides other health benefits. One such benefit is healthier looking skin. Another benefit is the reduced appetite associate with high water consumption. The trick is to drink a lot of water immediately before, during, and after your meals. Quite often, your body confuses hunger with thirst. So, if you are serious about losing weight make sure you drink plenty of water.
