The Lowdown On Low-Carb Diets

Are Low-Carb Diets Really The Way To Go?

Low-carb diets are all the rage, but are they really a healthy way to lose weight? The answer isn’t a simple yes or no. If you are thinking of pursuing a low-carb lifestyle, there are some things you need to know.

Carbs Are Not Inherently Bad

Here’s the deal, carbs are not inherently bad. In fact, your body needs some carbs in order to function properly. That being said, however, it’s important to understand that too many carbs are a bad thing. If you consume too many carbs, your body converts those carbs into stored energy -- otherwise known as fat.

Low-Carb Diet Basics

The way low-carb diets work is that by severely restricting your intake of carbs, your body starts burning fat as an energy source. Because of this, you start to lose weight so it is true that low-carb diets do indeed work. However, for many people low-carb diets are not the best way to take off the extra pounds. Cutting back on carbs is indeed wise if you’re consuming too many. But depriving your body of the carbs it needs is not a good idea.
